Toad Venom: The Story Behind a Community Favorite Image

Toad Venom has become a standout strain in the cannabis community, earning attention for its striking looks, uncommon lineage, and potent effects. There’s a story behind the name, too.

Where did Toad Venom come from?

Toad Venom is widely traced to a cross of Animal Face and Sin Mintz bred by Ronin Seeds. Animal Face brings the gassy, heavy-hitting side, while the Sin Mintz lineage adds sweeter, mintier characteristics.

Its rise is closely tied to Green Dragon, whose team reportedly grew 30 seeds from the cross and selected one standout plant. They nicknamed that selection “Becky.” As word spread and growers sought out the cut, it became known as Toad Venom.

That selection story helps explain the excitement around the strain. Toad Venom isn’t simply a catchy name for an indica leaning hybrid; it is a particular plant and a growing reputation behind it.

To make it all even more crazy, Toad Venom’s instant popularity created an explosion of clone cuts, counterfeits, renames, and general pandemonium that only boosted its popularity.

At one point, Green Dragon co-owner Glen stated that he had seen offers of $4,000-10,000 per pound on the East Coast. A fake-cut circulation only bolstered the public's curiosity and desire to try the real thing for themselves.

Who’s talking about it?

GreenState declared Toad Venom 2026’s hottest strain in February of 2026, while High Times named it one of its strains of the month over the summer, and Leafly even named it their September 2026 top strain pick.

To put it simply, Toad Venom has reached a level of celebrity that can be likened to Maui Wowie, Grand Daddy Purple, and Sour Diesel. If you run in cannabis circles online, you almost certainly know all about this standout strain.

What makes this flower stand out?

Arete’s Toad Venom THCa Flower is a 70/30 indica dominant, type 1 hemp flower, grown indoors in living soil. Its small to medium buds are dense and hand-trimmed, with a heavy coating of frost over forest green flower and purple accents. Open the jar and you’ll find a sweet, sour, herbal aroma.

The reported effects begin with a quick lift of euphoria and gradually give way to a chill tranquility. This is a particularly potent flower, so those seeking a gentler experience may prefer mixing it with CBD flower.

From the Animal Face × Sin Mintz crossing, Toad Venom has a history as memorable as its appearance.

It’s easy to understand why the community keeps talking about it.
